TIKI TERRARIUM MINI TALL

Tiki themed Terrarium

The Exo Terra® Tiki Terrarium is the base of your Tiki themed reptile habitat. The background is a Polynesian tribal totem featuring the Exo Terra® orange gecko as in the legendary logo!

The Tiki Terrarium is ideal for arboreal reptile and amphibian species! It’s unique Tiki background provides more 3-D space for tree dwelling species like tree boas & pythons, day geckos, leaf-tailed geckos, tokay geckos, anoles, tree frogs, etc.

It also has all the other great features of the Exo Terra Glass Terrariums; The front opening doors allow easy access for maintenance and feeding. A specially designed lock will prevent escape and the doors can be opened separately. The full screen top ventilation allows UVB and infrared penetration, and is completely removable for easy access while decorating or cleaning. In the back of the screen cover are 5 closable wire or tube inlets on both sides to install Heat Wave Rocks, Waterfalls, sensors, etc. inside the terrarium. The bottom plate of the terrarium is raised to mount a substrate heater to heat a part of the extended ground surface. The extra high fixed front window is ideal for thick layers of substrates (burrowing reptiles) or aquatic parts.

The Exo Terra Glass Terrarium is the ideal reptile or amphibian housing designed by European herpetologists.

Tiki is back!

Tiki: the first man

Tiki culture originated in 1933 and was inspired by the Māori, indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand. In Māori mythology Tiki is the first man created by the gods. Nowadays, Tiki refers to a wooden or stone carving in humanoid form.

Origins of the Tiki culture

A young man from New Orleans, Ernest Raymond Beaumontantt, had sailed throughout the Pacific and used the many cultural and culinary impressions from his trip to create the first actual Tiki-restaurant in 1933. It featured Cantonese cuisine and exotic rum punches, with a decor of flaming torches, rattan furniture, flower leis, and brightly colored fabrics. The distinctive Maori carvings, performing arts and mythology inspired the first Tiki design.

After WWII, soldiers returned from their missions in the Pacific Ocean, bringing home many souvenirs and stories. It led to an increased interest and further promotion of the Tiki culture.

Kon-Tiki expedition

The Tiki culture received an extra boost when, in 1947, Thor Heyerdahl organized the Kon-Tiki expedition: a journey across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands. Heyerdahl believed that people from South America could have settled Polynesia in pre-Columbian times. To prove it, he constructed a raft out of native materials, based on the design found in old illustrations. The excitement surrounding his expedition eventually led to an explosion of the Tiki Culture.

Similar, more recent journeys like the Tangaroa, An-Tiki and Kon-Tiki2 clearly show a renewed interest in the Tiki-culture and mythology. Tiki-themed events and conventions have begun to spring up.

The revival of the Tiki-Culture has begun!
